What is The Comeback?

Behind every athlete’s game face is a story of struggle becoming strength, frustration callousing to fearlessness, and a true belief that potential is greater than any pain. The ‘Comeback’ isn’t just about bouncing back from major setbacks in sport like injury; it’s a way to view the world and translates into every facet of life.

To come back to the present.

To come back from mistakes.

To come back to neutral.

To come back to believing we not only can, but will.

The Comeback is about always leaving room for possibility and constantly reminding ourselves that “It Could Happen”. But a great mindset isn’t an accident, and it can oftentimes surprise. Frustratingly, mindset growth isn’t quite as obvious as physical gains in sport. It can be difficult to measure progress or know if things are truly sinking in - stick with it. When what was once forced and cumbersome becomes automatic and smooth, it will all makes sense.

As with any technical skill, comeback mentality can improve with the right guide, tools, and work ethic. It requires daily practice, dedication, and recognition that the work is never done.

Allie’s Story

“You have given me a chance to see that everything we have known I was capable of can happen with the right tools…”

- Allie Wilson

When Allie Wilson won the Indoor National Championship in February of 2024, the look on her face said “I’m so confused”. Thirty seconds later she quite literally exclaimed “Oh f*ck”.

Coming down the homestretch towards the finish line, however, a practiced visualization of her swinging wide around a competitor flashed in her mind and words she had repeated after me throughout the day rang in her head:

I believe I can win.

A few seconds later, she did just that. Her first World Championship team, first National title, and first time finally seeing all of our mindset work come together wrapped into one.

Fast forward to the Olympic Trials in June of 2024 and we dialed in on everything even more: scheduling and routines, specific playlists, mantras, another burn ceremony, elimination of all negative influences, and more. Our phrase for those three races in June?

It Could Happen.

Allie would go on to say after her race that “I have never felt more focused in my life”. The final 200m she described the crowd getting quiet, her body being on autopilot, and her mind flooding with all of the practiced mantras from the week.

This time, it culminated in fulfilling a lifelong dream: making the Olympic Team.

“She has a gift in her ability to make you feel better in any situation, and to lift those up around her like I have never seen before.”
